Our Story

Marathon Elite was founded in 2024 by Jayden and Pat Dorilas to fill a specific gap in Northern Bergen County: serious basketball development that doesn’t require a long weekday commute to New York City or the Jersey Shore.

Two years in, the program competes on the MADE Hoops Challenger Circuit at 15U, 16U, and 17U, with player development led by Pat Dorilas. We build players over multiple seasons, not rosters assembled for a weekend tournament.

High-level basketball. Built in Bergen County.

MISSION STATEMENT

Marathon Elite develops intelligent, competitive players who understand the game, make winning decisions, and can adapt to any coach, system, or level.

The Marathon Method

Many programs teach players where to go. Marathon Elite teaches players what to see.

We don’t run memorized patterns. We use a conceptual offense taught through Guided Competition: live 3v3 and 4v4 basketball where players read the defense, decide, and live with the consequences.

3v3 is where we teach. 4v4 is where it transfers. More touches, more decisions, more defensive reps, and more accountability than any drill line can produce. Coaching is brief, then you try it again.

For players: you will not be told the answer on every possession. You will learn to recognize the answer for yourself.

Read the game. React instinctively.

What We Offer…

Marathon Elite is built for serious players in Northern Bergen County who want high-level development without relocating their basketball life to New York City or the Shore.

  • Player Development: individual skill work led by Pat Dorilas, covering shooting, finishing, footwork, decision training, and situational play. The same concepts our teams run, taught by the person who designed them.

  • Team Development: conceptual offense, live defense, film study, and decision-making instruction. Players see how the reads they train show up in real games.

  • MADE Hoops Competition: Marathon Elite competes on the MADE Hoops Challenger Circuit at 15U, 16U, and 17U, plus events including Zero Gravity and Hoop Group. Train locally, compete on a bigger stage.

  • Performance Training: mobility, speed, agility, plyometrics, strength, and conditioning. Movement preparation and injury prevention built into the development plan, not bolted on.

  • A High School Pathway: a continuing pathway from the transition into high school through 17U. We are not assembling teams to play weekend tournaments. We are building players over multiple seasons.

Our Philosophy

At Marathon Elite, we believe in the power of persistence and hard work. The name "Marathon Elite" reflects our belief that success in basketball, as in life, is a marathon, not a sprint. We are committed to helping our athletes develop the endurance, resilience, and mental toughness needed to excel in the long run. Every practice, every game, and every challenge will be approached with the mindset that perseverance leads to success.

Community & Culture

Marathon Elite is built around local players and local families. Our athletes come from schools across the Northern Valley and Bergen County, and we structure the week so basketball fits alongside school, family, recovery, and high school seasons.

You should not have to leave Bergen County to get serious development during the week. Train here. Compete beyond here.
